Editing and Proofreading

Certified Translation Editing and Proofreading

At Valle Translations, we believe a well-written piece of translation is of the utmost importance not only for publications, but also for successful communication with potential clients, current customers, employees, members, patients, and so on. This is why Valle Translations includes several rounds of translation editing and proofreading in all their assigned translation projects. Conversely, if you already have a document that has been translated by a third party and would need to validate and proofread it, you can send us your translated piece, and we will make sure it is accurate, linguistically correct, and culturally appropriate for the intended audience (proofreading). Rest assured that we will deliver a high-quality text ready to be published.

Our editors are highly trained and experienced linguists who not only focus on the correction of errors, but also on project requirements in conformity with the client’s target audience’s needs. Errors are classified into three categories—minor, major and critical—and include all possible failures related to terminology accuracy, meaning, style and register, grammar, consistency, adherence to specific client’s instructions, formatting, clarity, fluency and naturalness, overall quality, etc. A thorough Quality Assurance verification is performed after the translation has been edited and proofread, and before delivery to the client.

Human editing and proofreading are strengthened by the additional use of other machine quality assurance tools and applications. These resources enable us to have tighter control over consistency, accuracy, and grammatical correctness, as well as to ensure adherence to reference material and original format, and can easily be adapted to different software applications and formats and applied to any project regardless of the software (CAT tool) used.
We offer translation editing and proofreading in many languages, such as Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog and Korean, among many others.

The Translation Editing Phase

All translations done by Valle Translations go through several stages of editing and proofreading, performed by a separate professional linguist, aside from the original translator. In mutual collaboration, the translator and the editor will resolve any discrepancies that may arise and create the final version of the document. The editing process is divided into two steps. The first step involves an in-depth comparison of the original document and the translated text in order to identify missing information and mistakes related to meaning, while the second step focuses on grammar, usage, lexical choice, inconsistencies, fluency, punctuation and spelling errors.

The Proofreading Phase

The final document is thoroughly proofread to identify spelling, punctuation, and typographical mistakes. This step is aimed at ensuring that the document sounds natural and is free of typographical errors. In this final stage of the process, the format is also verified in order to corroborate that it reflects that of the original document in terms of font type and size, typographical emphasis (bold, italics, underlines), margins, colors, images, paragraph alignment, bullet points, page numbers, asterisks, superscripts, and much more.

The Postediting and Quality Assurance Phase

After the translation is edited and proofread by two linguists, our Quality Assurance experts will perform additional tasks as part of the final stage of quality control. For this added effort, specific postediting CAT tools are applied as well. To summarize, the expert first reviews the rounds of edits made by the translator and editor. Then, source and target files are carefully analyzed to check format and distinctive features of these texts and, lastly, postediting resources are used to ensure a high-quality product is delivered to the client.
